Sherburn Library

Based in Sherburn in Elmet, Yorkshire, Sherburn Library is a volunteer-run local Library for many of the villages surrounding Sherburn. The old branding for Sherburn Library was out of date and lacked character or meaning. With the sim of attracting a wider audience, the Library wanted a striking brand identity which would make them stand out in comparison to competitors.

Wanting to steer away from the official purple colour used at many libraries throughout North Yorkshire, I presented a colour palette full of vibrant and distinct colours which they could call their own. Offering a variety of services (from printing, to IT sessions and loaning books), the Library’s Primary and Secondary logos feature text split up into different colours and sections - representing the diverse range of facilities that Sherburn Library has on offer. Their Brand Mark then shows strips of these colours at varying heights, representing the eight different villages (at the time of design) that the Library looks after. The quirky shapes also depict book ends, therefore the Brand Mark reinforces all that the library is about whilst also conveying its community approach.

In order to keep the branding harmonious I also designed and created six social and printed poster templates for the Library to use, as well as one information leaflet.
