Meet your Designer
Hey, I'm Sophie. I’m a Website Designer and Brand Designer based in York, UK - creating wow-effect websites, bold brand identities, magical animations and bespoke design assets.
Designing and being creative has always been my passion, ever since I received my first iPad for Christmas in 2011; This was the start of my business dream and I look forward to sharing the rest of my journey.
My Business Journey
Let me set the scene - Christmas Day 2011. I received my first iPad; The iPad 2.
From hours on end in the garden, to late evenings after school - I would always be creating unique music videos using the 'Video Star' app (which I would then upload onto YouTube). I would spend my time watching tutorials, stood in front of my green screen and perfecting my video editing skills. I already knew what I wanted to do when I was older (at this point it was to create concert-screen graphics) and knew I wanted that creative freedom within my career.
During 2018 I was in Year 11, at school, preparing to sit my GCSEs. I studied Creative iMedia as one of my GCSE 'options' - a class which I thoroughly enjoyed. O2 hosted a ‘Design Day', tasking us to use Wix and come up with a business idea, presenting this in the form of a brand and website; This was where it all started. At this point I still wasn't aware of the idea of working for yourself (Freelance or Self Employed) but it was definitely something I wanted to do.
As I was about to sit my A-Level exams, COVID-19 began. I needed something to do with my time at home so I began posting more of my designs on my Instagram. I had never dreamed of going to university and was unsure what the next three years held. Soon enough, clients began to discover my profile and my name was passed onto other clients. I have loved working with every single individual and small business and look forward to watching Soph JH Design grow further.
About Me
I began my business as a hobby whilst, still at school, studying for my GCSEs. Our school had O2 come to host a 'Design Day’ (tasking us to build a website on Wix) and I've never looked back.
Soph JH Design is based in the United Kingdom, near the City of York. Despite this, I have worked with many clients far and wide.
In my spare time I love to be with friends or family and be outside - whether I'm going walking, running (I love a Saturday morning Parkrun), or riding my bike; I'm definitely an early-riser and love to make the most of what the day has to offer. When I'm spending some time inside I enjoy to relax by watching YouTube, crafting with my new-found hobby: knitting, or can often be found at the gym (taking part in exercise classes).
